So the paradise con was a big success! Thanks to everyone who came out and picked up a copy of Lucy! I didnt have a camera cuz Im half retarded so I didnt keep a record of any of the sketches I did.. If anyone who was there has a scan of any drawings I did for them I'd love if you could send em to me!
Thanks a lot!!

this is a comics survey started by http://abe-stryker.livejournal.com/ . I stole if from Davario! Here we go!
PART ONE: COMICS PERSONALITY TYPE
Name: Brian Evinou
Age: 28!!
Sign: Cancer
Introverted or extroverted? Im extroverted but I also need my introverted time in my room to get my drawrings done.
What are your top 5 procrastination tools? 1. My ladyfolk 2. Hockey 3. reading comics 4. interneting 5. dvd'ing
What gets your juices flowing? Ussually what will really get me going is a good comic reading. Livejournal often gets me all riled up too. Conventions though really do it. Esp after TCAF last year, I was a man possesed!
PART TWO: COMICS CONSUMER I read all sorts. Mostly North American publishers though, although I have been branching into manga lately. Love a lot of french artists. Mostly a lot of oni press Dark horse and image. Definitly a few marvel and DC thrown in there too.
What kind of comics do you dislike? Im a bit of a hater of gratuitous T and A books. I dont mind the nudity or seeing sexy bits, I just dont like when the focus of the book is the boobs rather than the quality of art or writing... Also Im pretty sick of pretentious auto bio comics. I love the comedy bio books though, I laugh and cry! Pretension puts me off.
When were you first introduced to comics? Well I think comics were always around. The first comic I remember buying was the last part of the fall of the mutants arc, uncanny xmen,I think its 227 http://en.marveldatabase.com/Uncanny_X-Men_227 . My brother and I went to local shop every couple weeks, he collected the spider mans, I got the xmens from them on. We have pretty complete runs of all that stuff from back then.
What were some of your first comics? See above, I strated actiavely collecting Xmen and my brother Spider man. We have all that stuff.
When did you first get "The spark"? I've always had it, be it for animation or what not. I lost the comics bug though around the collapse in the early 90's, I got the urge to start making comics again when I first read scott pilgrim, invincible, and Paul Popes stuff. There was a lot of stuff that came out around that time that started to really inspire me again and show me comics were finally raising themselves out of the mediocrity of the 90's
What is your favorite animated movie? very hard for me... Lilo and Stitch, Iron Giant, The Incredibles, Jungle Book??
What is your favorite anime series? Dont really have one? DBZ?
PART THREE: COMICS CREATOR What kind of comics do you make? Um my comics are generally action adv books? My first Lucy Legacy is about a girl saving the world from an alien invasion. My second coming this fall is about two different groups of highschool kids, one of whom has psyhcic powers. Theyre all B&W in a manga size format. My third which I cant wait to get started on will be a longer book, its a real world fantasy. Cant wait to get started on it.
When did you first start making comics? I've always done em, I think when I started doing the 24 hour comic challenge 3 years ago I realized I could actually do a pretty decent book on my own. After seeing a lot of the things oni has been putting out I got the confidence that I could do that kind of stuff too.
What are your favorite comic artists right now? Paul Pope, Ryan Ottley, Cory Walker, Bryan Lee O Malley, Frank Quietly, Tony Moore, John Casaday, Bryan Hitch, Pierre Alary,
What are your main influences in comics? Bill Waterson, John Bryne, Paul Pope, Bryan Lee O Malley, Frank Quietly
Artistically? Same as above I think. I can grab things from all those guys I really appreciate. It would take to long to list but they all mean a lot to me.
Who do you admire in comics? Other than the people I listed above, just about everyone. Comics are tough, comics are hard. You have to have an incredibly well rounded drawing skill set to make it. Especially though I really admire the new blood thats going into the comics right now, theres so much energy and excitment right now it seems to me. Great time to be a new creator! |

Hahaha!! I love that we have that oscar moment, it will forever tie us together. Im a big Faith Erin Hicks fan, I saw one time you commented on one of her blog entrees and I put the pieces together that you two are friends. I really want to meet her, I bought a water color painting she did off of her on LJ about 6 months ago! Shes a great talent. Its funny I almost put her on my list of fav artists but I wanted to keep it brief.. she is though. Anyways, thats a lot of gushing..I'll look for you at the con's. You should bring your Knitted plush dolls out, they would sell for sure!
I would like to put some of my plushies up for sale...maybe if Ottawa has a comicon then I will! - we can sit together....talk about the oscars.
